Scottish Rural Action received twenty expressions of interest in hosting the Scottish Rural Parliament in 2016 from locations as diverse as Wick, Dumfries and East Lothian.
National Coordinator of the Scottish Rural Parliament Emma Cooper said “We have been overwhelmed not just with the positive response to our call for expressions of interest but with the enthusiasm and hard work which has gone into producing such high quality proposals. We now have a tough job ahead sorting through the proposals, meeting with those shortlisted and ultimately deciding where to hold the next national meeting of the Scottish Rural Parliament.”
The call for expressions of interest was announced in April this year with a deadline for receipt of the completed form in early May. The 2014 Scottish Rural Parliament was held in Oban, Argyll where 400 delegates from across Scotland took part in three days of activity, bringing significant economic benefit to the area.
An announcement of the location for the 2016 Scottish Rural Parliament is expected in July.
